Settling into Kindergarten

Today marks the 7th day of Kindergarten for Cohen.  While we had a crazy busy traveling summer he was looking forward to starting "big boy school".  I'm not sure who was more nervous...me or Cohen, but we managed to make it through that first day.  With the story of a successful first week follows MANY months of weighing between a few schools for him to attend.  I had him registered at Eduprize...a charter school and Queen Creek Elementary..which was a boundary exception school for us San Tan Valley residents.  Months of comparing tests scores, parent feedback, student/teacher ratios...the list goes on and on.  I toured the schools, met with some staff members and the final decision was based primarily on a gut feeling.  All of the statistics were relatively the same but I had such a warm, down home feeling when I went into Queen Creek Elementary.  It reminded me of the school I once taught, and was small enough that most staff members recognized kids and acknowledged them by first name.  Something must be said for a mama's gut feeling :-)  Intentionally I was a bit nervous about how full day Kindergarten would affect Raigan...being the only one at home with mom I thought she would struggle without having her partner in crime....I was WRONG!  She loves her one on one mommy time...thus preschool for her begins next week!  She is already so attached to me I had to get her out and away for a few hours so that she would gain some independence. Well so far so good in the Gregston home....let's home we have a successful year with both kids!!!

Being a Mommy is funny isn't it? Shea did half day kindergarten and is on her way into all day (1st grade) and I've wondered how it will be for Ava, I'm excited for the things it might bring and now after reading your post I'm excited! Thanks for sharing.
